All the cool gear in the world means nothing if you walk into a studio and it feels as if you just walked into your doctor’s office. When Neil Zaza initially created The Audio Kitchen for his personal use, his first goal was make it feel like it was a place to relax, unwind and get creative. The control room is affectionately referred to as “The Moroccan Love Den” because of it’s dark and inviting feel with exotic relics from Neil’s world travels mixed with unique lamps and rich fabrics. When you walk in you’ll know it’s time to create!
The centerpiece of The Audio Kitchen is a vintage 32 channel Neve console that sounds as incredible as it’s pedigreed history might suggest. It was initially commissioned in the late 70’s at Capitol Records in Los Angeles recording and mixing countless hit records, spent some time in Michael Jackson’s home studio (rumor has it that the “Thriller” demos were supposedly done on it) and from there found it’s way through the years to our very own Audio Kitchen. We’ve also added some very special channels that used to reside in the Neve 81 series at Cherokee Studios in Hollywood (where famed producer/engineer Andy Johns considered this one of his favorite desks to work on). This desk sounds amazing and just oozes vibe and tone. Totally refurbished by Beamish Electronics, you owe it to yourself and your music to track and mix through the gold standard of analog mixing desks: A Neve.
All rooms at AKR are wired and ready to go in your tracking session. We have a dedicated amp/cabinet room (Iso 1) that allows you to push your amp to nuclear volumes and capture every nuance in discrete separation. Iso 2 is fully treated and ready for a vocal session or any circumstance that a “dead” room is required. We also have a “amp closet” with fantastic isolation in addition to our lounge being ready to accommodate a recording session.
Hey, we’re gear sluts so our FX rack is in a constant state of upgrade. We love gear so what this means for you is that you will have a full complement of toneful and inspiring outboard to bring your musical vision to life. Gear by AP!, Vintech, Empirical Labs, Avedis Audio, Burl, Great River, dbx, among others are at your disposal for every session at The Kitchen. Check back often because we keep buying gear!
Between takes relax in our “green room” lounge equipped with a refrigerator, microwave and coffee machine.
Aside from the finest in analog gear, The Audio Kitchen features the latest in what digital recording has to offer. Pro Tools HDX (32 ins and outs) clocked with an Apogee Big Ben. We can accommodate your sessions that were recorded in Pro Tools (10 and 11), Ableton Live, Logic Pro, and Cubase among others.
